Japan is the most economically developed country in Asia. The presence of significant economic potential, high rates of economic growth, and a favorable geopolitical position in the North-Western part of the Pacific ocean give reason to consider this country one of the most important centers of the world economy. Japan has a powerful industry with the latest technologies, significant monetary and financial resources, and a strong position in the system of international economic relations.
In the second half of the XX century. it went through a period of unprecedented economic growth in its history and entered the stage of post-industrial development. The country is located on small Islands off the coast of East Asia. This is a sea country, for which the Pacific ocean is the most universal and convenient road to all parts of the world.
Japan is a constitutional monarchy. The modern state system is defined by the Constitution of 1947, the main provisions of which open up wide opportunities for democracy in the country. Administratively, Japan is divided into 43 prefectures (Ken), three Metropolitan districts - Tokyo (the capital of Japan), Osaka and Kyoto (the ancient capital of the country), and the Hokkaido governorate.
Natural resource potential. Islands of the Japanese archipelago, the geological basis of which are underwater mountain ranges located in arcs along the Eastern coast of Asia. The main arc consists of four Islands: Honshu, Kyushu, Shikoku, and Hokkaido. The territory of the Islands is located in an active seismic area, where earthquakes are frequent. 3/4 of the territory of the Islands is occupied by mountains and areas with very rough terrain.
There are more than 200 volcanoes on the Islands, including 40 active ones, including Fuji, which is the symbol of the country. Economic activity is concentrated on relatively small plains, including significant ones on Honshu - Kanto (where the Metropolitan agglomeration is located), kinki (located in Osaka, Kyoto), Nobi (located in the agglomeration of Nagoya), Echigo; on Kyushu - Chikugo (cities, Fukuoka and Kitakyushu); on Hokkaido - Isikari.
